COTABATO CITY , Philippines — A policeman killed in a shootout one of two motorcycle-riding men who shot him while driving an impounded vehicle to the Highway Patrol headquarters in Isulansure win ph, Sultan Kudarat on Saturday.

Lt. Col. Julius Malcontento, Isulan town police chief, said M/Sgt. Jenathan Waguia, a Sultan Kudarat highway patrol team member, was wounded in the incident and is recuperating at the provincial hospital.

Waguia and other patrol members were manning a checkpoint in Barangay Impao when they flagged a minivan without license plates.

When the driver failed to produce any document, Waguia drove the vehicle for impounding. However, two men on a motorcycle trailed and shot him.

Waguia, despite a gunshot wound in his right torso, was able to shoot back, killing one of his attackers.                               

The consolidation deadline lapsed on April 30.
