Opting to bowl first, Perth’s decision paid off as Lance Morris picked up David Warner for just eight.  A good start turned into a brilliant one as Morris sent Matthew Gilkes back to the pavilion.

However, fresh off national debut, Sam Konstas scored a fighting fifty to keep them in the game, while a stunning Tom Andrews cameo, scoring 37 from just 13 balls took the Thunder to 158/7 in 20 overs.

Defending a subpar total against Perth, the Thunder got the ball talking early on picking up five wickets in the first six overs.

The Scorchers never recovered and were eventually bowled out for just 97 in 17.2 overs, with Aaron Hardie top-scoring with 22.

For the Thunder, Chris Green picked up three wickets, while Nathan McAndrew got two wickets, and Tom Andrews, Tanveer Sangha and Mohammad Hasnain all taking a wicket.

Sydney Thunder now lead Perth Scorchers 11-9 in their head-to-head record.

In the reverse fixture, on January 3, David Warner & Co. successfully chased down a target of 178 runs to beat the Scorchers by four wickets, making it two out of two this season.

Winners in the BBL03, BBL04, BBL06, BBL11, and BBL12 editions, the Scorchers are sixth and have a NRR of +0.467. The Ashton Turner-led side will need to win both their remaining matches to stay in contention for the play-offs (vs Thunder today, and vs Adelaide Strikers on January 18).
