MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and parts of Luzon and Visayas will experience overcast skies and rains due to the easterlies and northeast monsoon on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) specialist Chenel Dominguez said in a morning weathercast that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon would experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan.

She also said that the northeast monsoon will influence atmospheric conditions in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, and Quezon.

“Inaasahan pa rin po nating makakaranas pa rin po ng patuloy na mga pag-ulan dito sa may Bicol Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Mimaropa, pati na rin sa Quezon dulot po ito ng northeast monsoon,” Dominguez explained.

(We still expect continued rains in the Bicol Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Mimaropa, and Quezon due to the northeast monsoon.)

The easterlies, meanwhile, wold bring overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas on Tuesday.

“Makikita natin dito sa may Tacloban or particularly sa may Eastern Visayas ay makakaranas sila ng maulap na papawirin na may mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan, dulot po ito ng easterlies,” Dominguez said.

(We can see that Tacloban, or particularly Eastern Visayas, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains caused by the easterlies.)

She then warned of possible flash floods or landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

The easterlies will also trigger partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the rest of the country, Dominguez said.

No low-pressure area is being monitored by the state weather bureau as of Tuesday, she added.
