sbet Federal Agents Search the Home of Former Top N.Y.P.D. Official

Updated:2025-01-05 04:02 Views:165

Federal agents on Thursday morning searched the home of Jeffrey Maddrey, the former chief of department for the New York Police Departmentsbet, Commissioner Jessica Tisch said.

Mr. Maddrey, who resigned on Dec. 20 after a lieutenant accused him of coercing her into sex, is also being investigated by the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, which is working with law enforcement authorities in its inquiry, Commissioner Tisch said in a statement on social media.

Mr. Maddrey, who left the department but whose resignation is not yet effective, was suspended without pay Thursday morning as the search warrant was executed, the commissioner said. He was replaced on Sunday by John Chell, the former chief of patrol.

Agents also searched other locations, Commissioner Tisch said, though she did not identify them. She referred questions to the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Maddrey owns a home in Jamaica, Queens, according to city property records. Nicholas Biase, a spokesman for the Southern District, declined to comment on whether federal agents searched that house or any other properties.

Federal investigators have joined an inquiry by the city’s Department of Investigation into the provision of overtime and the allegations of sexual misconduct against Mr. Maddrey, according to two people with knowledge of the matter. Mr. Biase declined to comment on the nature of the probe and the search warrants.

For decades, Mr. Jameson’s voluminous work — more than 30 books and edited collections as well as reams of journal articles — has been required reading for graduate students (and some precocious undergraduates), not just in literature but also in film studies, architecture and history.

The conference runs from Monday night through Tuesday, and Mr. Vance is expected to speak on Monday, one of the people said, just before he squares off against his Democratic rival, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, in New York on Tuesday evening.
